Groward Group R&D Insights after the Biofach 2019 exhibition. Trends for 2019

Biofach is World’s Leading Trade Fair for Organic Food, which is one of our target exhibitions to visit. Constant growth of organic product demand is initiating new product development in the field of organic foods.

Groward group is focused in three main fields: eggs and egg products, grains and poultry. We have noticed several trends in these fields that we would like to share.

Marketing claims. For already several years we see the demand for products with decreased sugar content, without preservatives, with only natural ingredients. In addition, more functional claims are appearing on the final products. Functional claims must be approved by EFSA, so it means that products should be enriched with certain functional ingredients. This is one of the ways to innovate the final product or even raw material.

Jack Fruit. One of the most outstanding ingredients noticed in Biofach was jackfruit in various forms: dried, prepacked, extracted. Which can be included into various food applications. Jack fruit is a great natural source of vitamin C, in addition this fruit is extremely nutritious, and 100 g of this fruit brings 94 kcal. Jackfruit is rich in two kinds of fibers- soluble and insoluble and is loaded with high amounts of calcium which strengthens the bones and potassium which reduces loss of calcium through kidneys.

Top Functional ingredients. Functionality of the final product is strongly noticeable. Consumers are demanding for not only functional but easy to consume products.

Turmeric. Another tendency that is being noticed for already several years and is still on the peak is Turmeric. This super ingredient is used in various forms, not only as a functional ingredient and even as a natural colorant, what is more it is providing with a very specific and pleasant taste profile. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. Research shows that the curcumin in turmeric boosts neurogenesis. The production of new neurons in your hippocampus is essential for learning, memory and mood. So, this ingredient could even be called a nootropic.

Sea buckthorn. As super foods are still a hot topic, one of the berries in the spotlight is Sea Buckthorn. It is rich in many nutrients and may improve the health of your skin, liver and heart. It may also help protect against diabetes and aid your immune system. What is important to mention is that it can be used in various forms: oil, extracts, freeze and dried berries or juices.

Products on the go. As the world is moving faster and faster, consumers are expecting to save time while buying final products in a ready to eat packaging.  One portion packaging was mostly noticed among pasta, grain, deserts and meat products. Heat treatment that is mostly applicable is hot water. Packaging is varying from plastic to paper, of course most escalated were biodegradable and paper packaging which is more environmentally friendly.

Protein. Protein content is continue being a hot topic for already 5 years in the food industry. Doesn’t matter if it is plant-based protein source or animal source, it is greatly accepted in different industries and in various food applications. Egg protein is one of the easiest protein source to digest for human body, which brings the biggest benefits and faster results especially among athletes.

Groward group visited Biofach exhibition to keep our competence and pulse in organic product field. To continue following new trends and to get more inspiration for our new product developments. Groward Group is an innovative and creative company, open for consumer requests and discussion for new raw material creation.
